In 2010 Garrett Hedlund wrote a country song called, “Timing Is Everything.” In it he writes of close calls, what appears to be chance meetings and being hurt by love or healed by the same. Here’s a summary line:
It can happen so fast
Or a little bit late
Timing is everything
There are two words for time in the Bible. The first is chronos, and it refers to clock time or calendar time. It’s where we get our English word chronology. Chronos is sequential—past, present, future. And it is linear, moving in only one direction.
The second word for time is kairos, and it refers to the opportune time. Chronos is quantitative; it counts minutes. Kairos is qualitative; it captures moments. It’s the critical moment or the appointed time—“for such a time as this.” (Esther 4:14) It’s carpe diem, “seize the day.”
Nehemiah experienced the importance of a Kairos moment. He saw something that broke his heart. He prayed and waited. Then it happened. At just the right moment, Nehemiah was able to speak with the king. The king opened doors and provided the resources Nehemiah desperately needed.
God had positioned Nehemiah perfectly to make a difference. It was God who gave Nehemiah influence with the king as his cupbearer. It was the perfect set up! God acts in just the right time. Don’t miss your Kairos moments
Proverbs 16:3 says, “Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and He will establish your plans.”
Timing matters!!
